Junior Singles Competition

Congratulations to all our 8 & under and 9 & under junior players!

The sun finally shone on our Mini-Red and Mini-Orange players for their rain- postponed singles competition – and what a wonderful morning of tennis we were treated to.  Twenty four players between the ages of 4 and 9 years played a round-robin format, many children competing in their first ever tournament.

The eventual 9 & under winner was Owen Jackson with Charlie Houghton the runner-up.  Will Baskeyfield  won the 8 & under section with Jonah Hayes the runner-up.

Jane Wright was ably supported on court by our newly-qualified tennis leaders. Chairman, Mike Linsell thanked them everyone and congratulated all the players: “The Club is so proud of your achievements and how well you won and how well you lost! Your sporting attitude was noted and complimented on several occasions which is all an excellent foundation for the future”

Volunteer of the month - Andy Long

Andy Long has won the September Volunteer of the Month award for his work as Welfare Officer at Cuddington & Sandiway Tennis Club (CSTC).

Andy won the award for helping the club to improve their procedures and create a safe and inclusive environment. Andy is reasonably new to the Welfare Officer role, but has been extremely proactive from the start and worked closely with the LTA’s Safeguarding Team to better support Cuddington & Sandiway Tennis Club.

Mathew Lea, LTA Safeguarding Officer presented Andy with the Volunteer of the Month award at CSTC in the company of fellow members and other volunteers. The club were extremely proud of the occasion, with Mike Linsell, Chairman of CSTC, saying that it was great that the LTA had acknowledged Andy’s hard work and that the award was reflective of the club’s positive culture and ethos.

Andy was also invited to the recent Cheshire LTA awards celebration and re-presented with his trophy by Cathie Sabin, the new President of the LTA.

TENNISathon is a HUGE success! May 24/25th

The TENNISathon organised by Graham Finnigan was a huge success and raised £5003 for our local hospice St Lukes.

It rained all day on Saturday leading up to the event but thankfully the skies cleared around 5pm so that play was able to start is relatively good conditions at 6pm.

The weather was cool and mostly dry throughout the night with some rain early the next morning but nothing could deter our dedicated team of players who saw it though to the end at 6pm to tumultuous cheers from a large crowd of friends family and club members.

Well done to the team of Chris Turner, Arlene Shiel, Alex Lerczak, Jackie Penn, Steve Loom, Graham Finnigan, Nick Sommerville and Shaun Litler.

Road to Wimbledon Tournament 12th April

The Road to Wimbledon Tournament was held at the club on Saturday 12th April. This is an LTA. organised singles event for both boys and girls 14&U.

The eventual winner was Harry Carter who goes through to the County finals later this summer. The runner-up was Ryan Penn, who will be our reserve.

U14 Boys team win Aegon Division 2 Box D

Cuddington & Sandiway TC 14U team was Harry Carter, Sam Broadbent & Nathan Cosford. There were 4 teams in Division 2 Box D: ourselves, Prenton, Hale Barns & Widnes.

In their first match versus Prenton Harry and Sam both won their singles in impressive fashion (6-2 6-3 and 6-4 6-4), and then their doubles 7-6 4-6 10-6(tie break) to take all 6 points. Hale Barns were then scratched for failing to set up the required matches so the winner of Box D would be decided in the final rubber versus Widnes. In 2013 our 14U Boys came second in their Aegon Division to Widnes making this all the more exciting. Harry and Nathan both played well in the singles with Harry taking the win in 2 sets and Nathan just losing out. The doubles went to a final set championship tie break which Widnes only just won 13-11! However by taking 2 of the 6 points, we managed to top the group (Widnes had previously lost to Prenton).

TENNISathon 24/25 May

To all Senior Club Members
We are planning to hold a 24 hour ‘TENNISathon’ over the weekend of the 24th / 25th May to help raise money for St Luke’s Hospice.

Our aim is to provide a personal challenge, raise the profile of the Club with an Open Day and most importantly, put something back into the Community raising as much money as we can through Sponsorship for St Luke’s Hospice.

We are after volunteers to take part, which will involve spending the whole 24 hours at the Club playing doubles in rotation taking some rest hours in between play.  We already have a few interested members who are up for the challenge but would like a few more!

The Event will start at 6pm Saturday 24th May, culminating with a Club OPEN DAY afternoon on the Sunday 25th with refreshments and other events taking place - all ready to cheer our players off court at 6pm!

If you are interested in taking part and think you have the necessary skills – stamina, sleep deprivation, spending 24 hours with other like minded tennis players (!!) and can raise some sponsorship,  then please contact Graham Finnigan by Saturday 26th April : 07944156074   E-mail –

Thank you!
Graham Finnigan
