Ladies Day Strawberry Tournament 8th Sep 2010

Joan Astles and Barbara O'Neil found the perfect way to celebrate their birthdays! They provided strawberries and buck's fizz at a fun tournament for the Ladies' Wednesday morning group. Carol Ferber kindly organised the tournament - in spite of having a broken arm which was NOT connected with tennis!
Joint winners were Joan Astles and Linda Randall, and joint runners-up were Maureen Heaton, Chris Durston and Anne Stewart. Matches were played in glorious September sunshine and great fun was had by all. Please click here to see pictures of the event

John White, the league's honorary secretary, ran open and veterans tournaments for 32 competitors prior to the presentations. The open section was won by Matt Parker of Congleton and Luke Gideon of Nantwich, with Caroline Bromley of Nantwich and our own Damian Cookson the runners up. In the veterans section, Cuddington's honorary vet Simon Nuttall partnered Sue Hayes-Smith of Congleton to victory, with Ian Walker of Congleton and Valerie Hutton of Nantwich the runners up. Tony Turner of Rosebank Sports was on hand to present tennis bags and other generous prizes to all of the winners and runners up. The Gerry Ferber & Maureen Kirby Memorial Tournament
Sunday 29th August 2010

After appalling weather all morning the skies cleared and on a beautiful sunny afternoon there was a fantastic turn out of 22 players for this annual tournament in memory of 2 of the club's past members.

The ladies contest was a very close affair and after a count back Jean Jones and Alicia Esling were declared joint winners and received their trophy from Norman Kirby.
Club captain Simon Nuttall won the mens prize and received his trophy from Carol Ferber.

Emma Fearnside, club chairman, thanked everybody for coming and especially those responsible for the delicious food served after the competition.

Emma then performed the official opening of the new clubhouse extension assisted by Gro Bott.
